Synopsis: LEXI is a rich girl who loves a good rush. Whether it’s motorcycle racing or BASE jumping off a building in downtown Los Angeles, the only times she feels alive are when she and her friends are executing one of their dares. After her father’s arrest, Lexi doesn’t think twice about going undercover at his bank to steal the evidence that might clear his name. She enlists her hacker brother and her daredevil friends to plan a clever heist.
CHRISTIAN is a boy from the wrong side of the tracks. The local gang has blackmailed him and his friends into robbing banks, and he is desperate for a way out. When the boss promises that one really big job will be the last he ever has to do, Christian jumps at the chance for freedom. In fact, he’s just met a girl at the bank who might even prove useful. . . .
Two heists. One score. The only thing standing in their way is each other.
Disclaimer: I received this novel in exchange for an honest review and this in no way affects my opinion of the book.
When I read the synopsis for this novel I thought, a book about bank heists? Sign me up. Described as Ocean’s Eleven meets West Side Story, I was immediately drawn in as Ocean’s Eleven is a movie I greatly enjoy. Actually, my fiance and I just recently watched that movie again so maybe that helped in how badly I wanted to read this novel.
We first meet Lexi just as she is getting ready to jump off the roof of a building with her closest friends in a BASE jump. An adrenaline junkie, just like me, I felt immediately liked her and felt a connection to her. Christian. I couldn’t help but love. A good boy at heart, studying hard to go to university and save his family, but being blackmailed by the local gang to rob banks. You can see that this is not something Christian agrees with doing and wants out of. I fell for him early in this novel and nothing could change that.
I did find that the novel started out a bit slow and took me a while to become invested, but I liked the characters and knew it was a novel I would ultimately enjoy, so I stuck it out and I’m glad I did. The interactions between Lexi and Christian were great and always left me wanting more. The first thing that I became keen on was the pair. Early on in the novel I began to ship them and I shipped it hard right until the end of the novel.
As a thriller novel, I found the action to be just that; thrilling. Once the ball really started rolling, I did not want to put Smash & Grab down. Even when my puppy was whining and bugging me to go to the dog park, I was so close to the end that I made her wait so I could finish, as I just couldn’t bear to stop reading before I found out how it ended.
If you enjoy thrillers that are sprinkled with a small but perfect amount of romance, then I highly recommend you check out this novel. Lexi and Christian stole my heart and I hope they steal yours as well!
