My Rating: 4 stars/5
Synopsis: Everyone knows that Nathan is in love with his best friend, Preston…Everyone except Preston. Nathan has always accepted that Preston was too focused on his swim training to worry about love.
But Preston is heading off to train for the Olympics soon, so if Nathan wants his chance at love, he has to speak up now. But saying “I love you” is surprisingly difficult, even for someone as confident as Nathan. Maybe a whirlwind vacation in Europe could help? But… what if it doesn’t work out and he loses the best friend he’s ever had?
I borrowed an ARC of No Holding Back from my good friend Jamie over at Books and Ladders.
The book starts out with Nathan applying to be the event planner for the biggest event of the year, the event that could make or break his career before it has even begun. With Preston going crazy waiting to hear the results of the Olympic training program that he has been training for his whole life, Nathan decides to take Preston on a European adventure in hopes of finally telling Preston he loves him.
I really enjoyed the complicated relationship between Preston and Nathan and the complete lack of knowledge Preston has about the feelings Nathan is holding inside. While it was obvious to everyone around them, when one is completely wrapped up in their own world and life like Preston is, they let things that could really matter slip through their fingers.
Not only did I enjoy the excitement that was building while waiting for Nathan to build up the courage to tell Preston that he loves him, but I loved reading about the different places they traveled. It was especially fun while they were in Paris because I have been there and enjoyed reading about places I’ve been.
I found this novel to be beautifully written and I cannot wait to read more that Kate Evangelista comes up with.
